What is ITSM, and why should a growing business care?
ITSM (IT Service Management) sounds like something only large corporates need. In practice, it's just a clear, repeatable way of handling problems, requests and changes, and small businesses need that structure just as much, usually earlier than they expect.
The problem it actually solves
Without ITSM thinking, every issue gets handled slightly differently depending on who deals with it and how busy they are that day. Nothing is written down, so the same problems get solved from scratch, repeatedly, by whoever's available.
What it looks like at a smaller scale
It doesn't mean adopting an enterprise framework wholesale. It means clear steps for "what happens when a customer reports a bug," "who approves a system change," and "what we do when something breaks at 5pm on a Friday": documented once, followed every time.
Think of it as an instruction manual for how your business handles its day-to-day operations: right-sized for where you are now, with room to grow into.
